I feel good about studio because I dont have to go through the jumping hoops of the "get to know your professor thing" due the fact I had him last semester, although this means I need to work harder and increase my production...That is fine by me, it's not a burden to paint, i want to, it's investigating your self deeply that is exhausting and doesnt give you motivation to pay attention to my other classes. Another thing is my roomates have become somewhat odd in my perspective. I have a strange feeling I won't be able to live with them for two more years. All of a sudden I have just become greatly disturbed by their lack of responsibility and lack of COMMON SENSE. I give it to them that itelligence is nothing they can aquire easily, hopefully I wrong, but to build your ability of common sense I thought could be aquired or readily aquired by observing others in their natual habitat.Animals that lick their own asses and balls seem to catch ON! Come to figure I have been proven WRONG. Stupid little shit with leaving food out all over the place, not cleaing up after themselves, and not turning off appliances such as heat, lights, and oh get this the stove/oven..Today we have to drop off rent and Roomie #2 asked if he could spot hime 30 bucks until the end of this week...GODDAMNIT...He knows when rent's due and he is home all the time, buys new shoes every week and he doesnt work, thats why I am bitter, Oh and he has never worked a day in his life.HA! Both of the roomies just paid me for ultilities last week from DEC and JAN!! I guess I will have to have a discussion about turning off this, paying rent not ALLL IN ONESS SO I HAVE TO GO TO THE BANK !!!!, and ect....
Overall I am just getting the itch of being in the same place, meaning apartment and city. Maybe it is time for a change before the tow years. I hate getting back in the rut where you find yourself so distraught with an overload of new information. I can't wait until it becomes the norm again, yet I'm not quite ready to submerge myself under the water just of yet. It seems the more I am chipping away at my hours in college the more I kind of need to stay for longer and longer periods of time. I really don;t know. My job is making me a manager and my boss keeps nagging me on what are plans for the summer and spring break. I say why not just stay, but it might be boring as hell. Although I could jsut work work work and take a little time off in the middle to visit for a few weeks back home. OORR I could maybe work all of May and return back home to work at the summer camp all of June and July then return once again. ALthough the summer camp was fun, it drained me out with working full time eight hours a week and then having to work outside of work trying to prepare art projects for the kids...It would be nice if my roomate would stay with me at the house to keep me some kind of company, althogh she would probably be just as boring as me being by myself, or if anything, just right out annoying. Somtimes it just sux trying to sort out shit, and then before you know people have passed you by, moved on, or out right stay out of reach. Sometimes I wish to just bring the things here I want most or stop and return to back home, the city, not the actual house hold. Hmmm well I guess I will just suck it up and hope that everything will be okay.

Your Element Is Fire

Your passion and emotion are as obvious as the brightest flame.
You make sparks fly, and your passion always has the potential to burst out.

You are exciting and creative - and completely unpredictable.
You sometimes exercise control, and sometimes you let yourself go.

Friends describe you as sensitive, spirited, and compulsive.
Bright and blazing with intensity, you seem mysterious and moody to many.

What's Your Element?

Fetus A & Fetus B

Well I went for the first time to an ultra-sound for my half identical twin brothers. It was actually a realy cool experience to see the growing babies inside the womb. Plus they measure the arm, thigh, belly and skull length to guess how much they weigh. From the previous ultra- sound, fetus A was 2.5lbs and fetus B was 2.75, this time around fetus A is 4.6!! and Fetus B was 4.7!!! It was so cool to watch them, I saw fetus B yawn and open his mouth a few times...I couldn't believe it! They also zoom in on all of the organs and check the heart for their heart rate. It was so cool to hear the heart beat over the speaker. I think I am fully excited about this whole brother thing. Too bad I won't be hear for the birth, which sucks. Although I might be able to fly home for spring break in March to see them for the first time.

Well that pretty much summed up my day even though I did force myself to wake up around 1!!! Day one of healing my mind body and spirit.

A Place In Mind

Well I finally had a one on one dinner with my mother this winter vacation back in Las Vegas. Over all it went very well, it took a little time to actually get me started. I wasn't in the mood to tolerate the Summerlin crowd at this one restaurant that is named after a cake made from a creamed cheese. After a little debating of what to order after a 1/2 hour wait, I finally confronted my mother about the things that have been bugging me about her boyfriend and how she has been behaving lately. I think it went well, but I also have come to a conclusion about myself. I believe I am experiencing a meltdown. It has been hard for me to come to terms with the whole realization, but I think it's true. I just don't feel like being around in public and out and about. Although I think I should be and have fun, yet I am kind of having fun just not giving a a @%!$&! Hopefully I will get my shit together by the time school starts or maybe even tomorrow. I did tell myself that I would get my mind, body, and spirit together and slowly heal myself for the new year of 2005, but the next day I found my self saying...aahhh just one more day. Then I went to go see the movie What The @%&%! Do We Know? and I realized that I may have become addicted to this form of no control, just letting myself do absolutly nothing. (WHAT A WASTE OF SPACE). Frankly I have been having such intense and great dreams lately that cause me to sleep until 4 p.m. actually it's makes me want to not even wake up. I kind of rather experience that reality than what reality I experience when I am awake. It;s like I have had an overload of making decisions, so now I just can;t make any or have any self-control. Or maybe I am subconciously punishing myself; but for what I have no clue. So as a conclusion from my previous meltdown conclusion, I think I may be in some form of depression. So this has made me thouroughly pissed off that it has taken control of me making me somewhat out of control. Therefore i am determined to conquer the devil beast in a positive way. I need to conquer my mind body and spirit and meditate more often. ENOUGH OF THIS SHIT!!! I can't handle carrying this with me this upcoming semester or the rest of my life because it started the end of the last semester and it was hard to keep my head above water.

I also want to give a thank you to a great friend that has made me laugh and feel like a lovable person and open his home for me while I go through the ugliness of this dark cloud. It's time for me to smell the coffee.

Some Thoughts

Well I have made it through another semester of school out here in the flat mid-west. I am kind of looking forward to next semester already due to the fasination with painting. Although I am curious to how this year will end up like, will I want to go back home?...Will I want to continue my education here....or do I want to transfer somewhere else. There is so many things that feed the need to stay away from home, but there are a lot of things that are pulling me back to my hometown. I don't know what to think except just give myself time. Life has smoothed out quite a lot opposed to the rocky road it was taking last year, yet I still feel foriegn to this life. I know this may sound confusing, but I have a hard time digesting what I have gotten myself into, good points and bad points.....I guess I will just concentrate on treating my hangover from lastnight...ha.Woops.

TIS THE SEASON

<img src="http://members.cox.net/neonbulb/betnudexmas.jpg"/img>
link

For One's Education

Baghdad Hit With Deadly Insurgent Attacks

By KATARINA KRATOVAC, Associated Press Writer

BAGHDAD, Iraq - Baghdad exploded in violence Saturday, as insurgents attacked a U.S. patrol and a police station, assassinated four government employees and detonated several bombs. (http://www.melomag.com/article/modern_art)

The proposed view on modern art within the article was the possible lack of modernity of the public in general who respond to modern art work. The article sided with the fact that the “unmodern” world is not ready to except the elements that modern artwork has to offer to an audience. A lot of the controversy lies with-in the public eye, no matter the location within the world, if it hurts or causes more provocation than admiration such as using the or making a mockery of religion and politics.

The concern presented in the article is quite interesting to recognize the fact that boycotting and vandalism in modern day museums is an everyday on going issue around the world due to the vulgar “unmodern” thinking of the so called “modern-world.” Even modern societies conclude themselves to be free enough to have freedom of expression, but there also lies an understated double standard of what is just “blasphemous” and so called “out-right horrifying.” The idea of the public being out-right ignorant towards foreign subject matter is kind of a far stretch for what the actual problem consists of which is more or less a lack of acknowledgement or understanding. The general public eye has a general lack of tools and incites to compose an objective opinion towards something.

One famous artwork that falls into this category of modern art, is Andres Serrano,
who did The Piss Christ, a crucifix encased within Serrano's own urine. Many incidents were reported of that artwork being attacked by not only adults, but as teenagers as well that either kicked or even hammered the artwork. The Piss Christ part of the body of work entitled, The History of Sex , where Andres explored the artistic parts of his spirituality and rebellion to the catholic church that played a role within his life..

A lot of the vandalism and hatred towards new view points and applications of controversial subject matter used to provoke a certain emotion artistically is mostly religious groups and or clashing cultures due to conflicting morals. This is no-surprise. Can you really synthesize the entire world to ever be accepting or what is considered to be permitted or what should be banned? There is no possible way to introduce a universal norm into the art world for everyone to except. If one could figure that out, then why stop there, we could cure world hunger and obliterate the thought of bloodshed/war. Depending on what culture one is from deciphers what morals one would have which in conclusion would create the world and reality that person would live in. That reality is that paerticular person's absolute knowledge and can’t be “enlightened” without the option of genocide.

Cremaster Cycle

Last weekend I went and saw a screening of Matthew Barney's Cremaster Cycle 1 & 2. They were pretty amazing and insaning symbolic throughout every frame. All I can do is suggest going through the Cremaster Cycle site to read each synopsis and about the characters. You can also download short trailers to each film. It isn't easy to find screenings of these if your not a multi-millionaire who owns one of his sculptures from his films. Although the only thing that is somewhat disturbing about the whole thing, is do you really need 5 movies that total up to around eight hours to justify your sculpture?...

A Place In Mind

  <img src="http://members.cox.net/neonbulb/richbow1.jpg"/img>

Richard Bowman is one of many artists that had an exhibition during the previous first friday at the Blue Gallery in Kansas City,MO, on W. 19th Street.

The one man exhibition was called, "A Place In Mind," which consisted of a series of oil painted landscapes. The artistic decisions that Bowman made within each of his landscape paintings were brillant. It has been awhile since great work in the painting world has come about.

The choices of color within each landscape painting were carefully used to convey a certain mood that had all of the viewers within the gallery pausing for minutes at a time in front of each work. The most intriguing part, a long with the color palette, was the landscape being portrayed as broken abstract shapes that would make no-sense if they were taken apart and viewed by themselves. The extreme harmony that the shapes created was strongly interlocked which lead to the illusion of a serene calm interior space that a viewer could travel deep within. The idea of the painting appearing so flat when you looked at the individual blocks of color and then sucked you into another world far beyond the canvas deserves huge recognition of the talent of extracting such particular elements.

Within the color palette, the use of contradicting ochres and oranges against satisfying turquoises, really entranced the viewers eyes. A great visual stimulation is created within each composistion and concludes with fullfillment of the viewers visual hunger.

Proud Daughter

My mother, Lisa Stamanis, just had an art show in Las Vegas,NV at The Arts Factory in the CAC gallery. I got rave reviews from relative that attended, but I am so glad she got some public recognition as well. My mother is so talented and if it wasn't for her I wouldn't be where I am today. I know we have had our troubles in the past as I was growing up, but I can now say I fogive her because she is an artist, need I say more...

<img src="http://members.cox.net/neonbulb/lisadraw1.jpg"/img>

The CAC's Our Daily Bread features chocolate, coffee and lots of raw meat

BY KELLE SCHILLACI

Few things wield as insanely a powerful effect over an otherwise rational human psyche as food -- at least in this country. Consider the behavior of shoppers when conniving a way to score seconds at a sample stand. Or just how motivating the promise of a snack-size Snickers is in bribing a class full of freshman to actually read the homework assignment. We write poetry about it; we watch movies about it; we have a TV network devoted entirely to it.
Lisa Stamanis serves up "Hot Coffee" at the Contemporary Arts Collective.

But when the Contemporary Arts Collective invited artists to take the phrase "culinary arts" in a new direction -- in an exhibit titled Our Daily Bread -- the four chosen artists thankfully skirted the more clichéd tirades against the diet industry or America's food obsession in general, choosing instead to work out their own strange obsessions the best way they know how: on canvas.

Well-positioned at CAC's front entrance, exhibit curator Marty Walsh's bright depictions of cartoonish snack-size pudding and other lunch foods draw in the hungry sidewalk shoppers. Walsh's focus tends toward meticulous examination of the more mundane aspects of life, and her five-canvas, weekday-lunch sequence reveals an interesting narrative. They say you can tell a lot about someone by their trash. In this case, we get a bird's-eye view of someone's lunchbox. Monday begins hopeful and wholesome: two baguette sandwiches, a Hunt's Pudding Snack Pack, a bag of Doritos, what looks like a couple of different Gatorade flavors. By Thursday, it's a pack of Winstons in an upturned hardhat beside a coffee thermos emblazoned with "I'm a Union Iron Worker and Proud of it." Friday's icepack-chilled box is back to the well-balanced brand names: Jell-O, Diet Coke and a sandwich (in a Ziploc?)

On the adjacent front wall, New York City illustrator Jack Endewelt takes aim at delicacy, offering a structural study of chocolate. Samplers from Whitman's and Russell Stover are, well, realistic. If not for the title, "Study in Raisenettes" [sic] could be misinterpreted for itty-bitty, chocolate-fetus swirls, or jackrabbit scat. While the rest of the pieces simply offer up tasty, close-up studies, "Sweet Tooth" ups the ante to the tune of a moral. It's a diptych -- one close-up on a chocolate morsel, the other on a hefty cavity X-ray. Ah, lesson learned. Has he captured the essence of chocolate? Maybe ... if it succeeds in getting your taste buds wet.

Local artist Lisa Stamanis whittles the broad theme down to the bare necessities: coffee, smokes, beer and cell phones. Her focus is more on place and lifestyle. "Miller Lite, Dino's Bar" -- a beer; a wisp of cigarette smoke; an homage to one of downtown's artist-friendly watering holes. "Hot Coffee (with spoon from the Enigman), Liberty Café, 2004" -- an ashtray and curled smoke, nicely framed and hung beside a series of framed cocktail napkins titled "Hand with Fork" and two variations on "Styrofoam Cup." These rushed ink-sketches strike a surprising chord: the way the fingers clutch the mug. They're the hands of someone in deep conversation; hands that don't know what to do with themselves. Light another smoke? Clutch the cup and keep talking?

From beer to bacon, Los Angeles artist Victoria Reynolds is obsessed with meat -- raw, red meat. Her series of elaborate, whimsically framed close-ups of marbled curls of raw animal flesh imbue, upon first glance, a softly pink radiance that seems more appropriately placed in a young girl's room, over the Barbie dreamhouse. Step closer and you can make out the intricately veined sinew and chunks of plump gristle. The tones are muted in an almost classically Renaissance or Rembrandt-inspired portrait style, especially "Rashers," a soft-focused close-up of the rolls and folds of fatty bacon. "Ribs for Eve" takes us, Disney-ride-style, deep into the insides of cattle. Hey, it's what's for dinner. Whether delivered in reverence or disgust, it's a vegetarian's nightmare.

Oddly enough, Our Daily Bread as a whole seems less aimed at inspiring hunger than it is obsessed with structural form and lifestyle. The exhibit title hints at something reverent, playing off the biblical importance of what it means to break bread with one another. And these artists do, each in their own way, offer themselves up on a platter -- at least the somewhat tame parts they chose to expose. I'd have mixed up the meat and the chocolate, just to turn a few bellies. But maybe that's why I'm writing and not curating.

Our Daily Bread

The Contemporary Arts Collective

In the Arts Factory

101 E. Accompanying me was my soon to be roommate while we sat inside the window of the local hot spot sipping a "short" hot chocolate with whipped cream, and a "tall"regular coffee that I must mention was served to me in CERAMIC WARE. That situation right there is hard to come by back home. Point #1 The beverage sizes makes sense...."Tall" is NOT a SMALL...it is actually the next size bigger from a "short" making the "tall" a medium and the largest a "grande" which makes perfect logical sense. This point really doesn't bother me but I did notice it so I think it was worth mentioning....Point #2 If the costumer decides to chill there and orders their chosen yummies "for here" the patron receives them in a ceramic cup that retains heat of the chosen warm beverage.....great concept huh!...I thought so my self....and you get a plate to eat your muffin on.......I just think it gives the place a home like character unlike the Ship You Out & On Your Way cafes that are common to most street corner after street corner leaving people with nearly no options for somewhere to chill and study. Another key thing that I believe is a strong attribute to a somewhat decent coffee shop, besides free wireless internet, is a vast variety of HOMEMADE muffins...you know the ones with the awesome muffin TOPS. It always reminds me of the Seinfeld episode of Kramer opening a Muffin Top store....if I remember right. Goodtimes...

Speaking of Seinfeld here is a funny quote from Jerry himself.

Men and women all in all, behave just like our basic sexual

elements. If you watch single men on a weekend night they really act very

much like sperm - all disorganized, bumping into their friends, swimming in

the wrong direction. "I was first." "Let me through." "You're on my tail."

"That's my spot." They're like the Three Billion Stooges. But the egg is

very cool: "Well, who's it going to be? I can divide. I can wait a month.

I'm not swimming anywhere."

Rock the Kasbah

DUDE!.....I passed my Yellow belt test last night, next step is Orange! I had to do to tricks for both sides, recite ten japanese words, recite the code and do four combinations..For the past month I have been training in Karate Do along with some self- defense moves I can use when I go off to Kansas City in the next few days. I am so intrigued by martial arts from my exposure to it this summer, I am hoping I can find a place in Missouri that can continue training me until I can register my body as a lethal weapon...hehe. Well wish me luck on my road trip down there, it should be a lot of fun if the weather stays decent. I don't want to out run tornados during the long long long super flat drive across Kansas. I don't understand how one could live out in the middle of such bland land...I need mountains; portruding plates of the earth's crust in my landscape.

Sorry

I know...I have been lost in the crazy web called life. Go figure, I am feeling really shitty right now. I don't know how to feel about anything now, I am good one moment but torn the next don't know what to do, I have now put my life in two spots, Las Vegas, and Kansas city. I am confused to why I am sad right now because I don't know what to say. I would like to just cry but what for?...Although I can't stop crying as we speak...I worked today for a change,,,ha...Came home, went for a walk, took a shower...Then I stopped, everything seemed to stop. My friend Carrie from KCAI called fro, her home Wisconsin and said that she couldn't take being home anymore, and how she couldn't wait until it was time to move back to KC...I have taken the responsibility of finding a home for us....Hopefully it won't be too hard....I tried painting to tonight but I found myself just not giving a fuck and just paint whatever makes me happy...We'll see if I finish it. I was getting pissed off because I wanted to just paint fast and release some aggression but I had no medium to mix with so it was a bitch to paint with....Guess I should make a trip to the art store.....I have become such a cheap bastard lately...I find myself debating if I really need something, or is it just a want....And IM still broke...Ha..I guess that is the question of the day that fits my life......Deciding what I need or what I want......I don't know what to do....I so scared, tired, frustrated, lonely.......But overall I guess happy compared to what other things that could be going on in my life.....I feel like I walk around and live a life without touching the ground, nothing is solid around me; everything seems so delicate and subject to change at anymoment and I have no control over it......

That Was A Goodtime

Man it sucked, I didn't get a wink of sleep last night and I had to start my day at 7:30 this morning...not to mention I have a 5-7 page paper to write this evening....goodtimes. I am so worn out I can't wait until I check in my key tomorrow at 4:30 and get the hell out of here, I am really longing to go back home and just lay on in the middle of my mom's floor.....become one with my old house. I can't wait to see my cat too, I wish it was more affectionate because I love that goddamn thing so much, but it barely gives me the time of day....Hopefully I can get a dog or cat when I come back out to KC this summer, it would be nice to have something to take care of and cuddle with.....I guess I should get my ass in gear and finish up this one last thing for art history thats due in about four hours, I keep distracting my self and putting it off to the last minute...uuhh. Can't wait till this day is gone and my mind to stop spinning out of control. There was a shit load of hard times that I thought would never pass, but they have some how disappeared into another dimension. Time has come and gone and will never stop. Once you reach a point, it will be gone in a matter of seconds advancing into the beyond of complete blindness. No one knows where you will end up or whom you will meet, the future lies in the hands of the clock. Tick- TiCk- TiCKK- Honestly I am so lost, but I don't care because my life is in my hands. It is in Missouri about forty five minutes to an hour away from Kansas City. It was so cool, we met up with my friend's boyfriend at his house where he lives with four other people and just hung out on the porch and drank. It was so fun, it was like Dorthy's house with the rickety old door and picket fence. You can see downtown from their house and there is a train track that runs right through it, so every hour or so a train would pass through blowing its horn, it was so cool to be somewhere totally different from Las Vegas, unlike Kansas City is more similar due to the city life. Although it got really cold that night and I ended up sleeping downstairs where I pretty ,much shook to death trying to retain body heat....goodtimes...Hopefully I will be back there soon before I have to leave to Las Vegas for a little summer break. On Friday, a friend and I went to for a walk around her neighborhood, where she lead me to this near by cemetery. We tried to get through the gate, but it was locked so we ended up jumping the fence. It was so nice to walk around where no body dwells much. A sense of sublime just surrounds you while you look down rolling hills of old head stones. The sense of horrific and beauty come together especially since it is spring, the beautiful flowers and green grass fill your eyes with color. Even though I am glad nothing strange happened, but in a way I wanted to see or hear something. Oh well.

Egon Shiele & Gustav Klimt

I was in art history today sitting through a lecture on expressionism and stumbled upon these guys. You decide to go ahead and except this wonderful offer of luxurious living and arrive the next day. After a few weeks you have discovered a new self awareness of how freaking great your life is going and decide to forget every trouble that had lied in your path once before to make your experience even more memorable, yet the next thing you discover is a huge cyst on the back of your neck. The last thing you think of that you don't want to happen to you....HAPPENS!....You try covering it up with you hair, staying in dark places, and avoid looking in the wrong direction so you don't cause your self any pain. Although there is no stopping it, the cyst is getting bigger and bigger yet your hair is getting longer and longer so either or, it's getting easier to cover up but extremely more painful to carry it around with you on the back of your neck. Then you also start to realize that maybe you have had that cyst longer than you thought, maybe you thought it was a bug bite from an exotic tropical bug that are so frequent in your home town, um lets say Reno.....Go figure...........DO you come to your senses with yourself and ask why you pretend stuff doesn't take place. Or DO you hope that it will eventually cure itself by just keeping your "chill"....HELL....DO you just perform an operation right then and there next to your newly acquainted pina colada?!.....You have plenty of beach towels to form a blood clot after the mass amounts of expected bleeding.....Or do you...? Maybe they are made out of some newly fabricated fiber that does not absorb liquids, but just help you sit comfortably upon the scruffy sand leading you to just sit there with the newly removed cyst in you hand while you watch your cyst die as well as yourself in a pool of all your blood...........What WOuld One DO?....
<img width='1' height='1' I can't believe this freshman year has gone by so quick and to sit and reflect on how much I thought I was going to just start bleeding internally from all the pain of being away from everything familiar seems like yesterday. What hurt the most was I had noone to go and talk to, everything and everyone I met didn't know me so I just had to suck it in which seems to be a common thing I do in most of my situations. By reflecting I am really proud of myself of how much you think something is going to kill you, but you actually survive, not saying that I am A OK, but I have learned how to push my pain back to a last priority which is hard being a hormonal imbalanced species;female....Although I am getting the jitters once again because a lot in my life is still changing and changing into the unknown which is hard to conceive when you can barely keep a steady breathe when you don't have a physical grasp on stuff. I have to many questions and doubts that cross my mind on a daily bases that makes me just want to disappear to another place. .....(not really just in case this is a "be careful what you wish for thing"). well technically I am in another place, but I guess I mean another place in time....another dimension. Hopefully things will sort out in a a month or so...goodtimes..eh?...ha!!!

I'm Back

Just want to say sorry for the delay, I have been out of town and away from my portable computer, funny how that works. Basbanes, entitled Patience and Fortitude: A Roving Chronicle of Book People, Book Places, and Book Culture, explores the world of books and the people who love them. Much of the focus centers on the evolution of the book throughout history, from the times of ancient scribes to the present, as well as chronicling the libraries and institutions that treasure them.

In his chapter called "Profiles in Bibliophagia," which is a detailed look at the lives and natures of many specific book loving people and institutions, Basbanes includes Saint John's Abbey and Saint John's University with a discussion of their choice to take on the wonderful task of making The Saint John's Bible.

The following excerpt is from Patience and Fortitude, describing the project:

"In Collegeville, Minnesota, meanwhile, the Benedictine monks of Saint John's Abbey and Saint John's University announced in the spring of 1999 that they had commissioned Donald Jackson, the official scribe to Queen Elizabeth II and one of the foremost calligraphers in the Western world, to create a seven-volume manuscript version of the Old Testament and New Testament entirely on vellum, complete with hand- painted illustrations and illuminations prepared by a team of artisans working in his scriptorium in Monmouth, England. Because it uses language that is gender inclusive and nonintrusive to contemporary sensibilities, and is "multicultural," "ecumenical," and "prophetic" in its approach, the monks also chose the New Standard Revised Version as their text. Executing every letter with goose-quill pens on calfskin sheets, Jackson's group is expected to finish the $3 million project in 2004. When it is completed, the Saint John's Bible will be sent out on a worldwide exhibition tour and be made available to the general public on CD-ROM, over the Internet, and in a facsimile trade edition."

Sex, Drugs, and Cocoa Puffs

I know...I had some business to take care of, so I finally picked up this book again, so here is another joyful quote I want to share. To clue you in he is talking about sugar coated cereals and how kids try to be cool now days, I know it sounds odd, but yeah, I find it humorous.......
The desire to be cool is- ultimately- the desire to be rescued. It's the desire to be pulled from the unwashed masses of society. It's the desire to be advanced beyond the faceless humanoid robots who will die unheralded deaths and never truly matter, mostly because they all lived the same pedestrian life. Without the spoils of exclusionary coolness, we're just cogs in the struggle. We're like a little kid trying to kayak ( or perhaps freestyle rock climb), and all the older kids keep mocking our efforts, openly implying that we cannot compete. But if we can just find that one cool thing that nobody else has- that grengarious, nine-foot animated jungle cat who can provide a glimmer of hope and a balanced breakfast- we can be better than ourselves. We can be tigers' Atta boy.

Check It Out!

Coming April 8-11-2004 Annual Rockabilly Weekender

My Country

You're Brazil!

You're athletic, charming, and probably a good dancer.
Unfortunatley, you don't really mind chopping down the rain forest, and you probably
consider homeless people expendable in certain circumstances. Of course, your
personality is so diverse that it's hard to track down exactly what you're like. You
definitely like Pele, the World Cup, and shouting "gooooal" at the
top of your lungs.
Take
the Country Quiz at the Blue Pyramid

Hung Like A Shell Fish

-City Life- (News of The Weird)
Geologist David J. If you have never heard it you should check it out.

The sad irony, of course, is that Joel divorced Elizabeth three years after " Just the Way You Are" won a grammy for a Song of the Year. Obviously, some would say that cheapens the song and makes it irrelevant. I think the opposite is true. I think the fact that Joel divorced the woman he wrote this song about makes it his single greatest achievement.
When I hear " Just the Way You Are," it makes me think about Joel's broken marriage. It makes me think about all the perfectly scribed love letters and drunken emails I have written over the past twelve years, and about all the various women who received them. I think about how I told them they changed the way I thought about the universe, and that they made every woman on earth unattractive, and that I would love them unconditionally even if we were never together. I hate that those letters still exist. But I don't hate them because what I said was false; I hate them because what I said was completely true. My convictions could not have been stronger when I wrote those words, and- for whatever reason-they still faded into nothingness. Three times I have been certain that I could never love anyone else, and I was wrong every time. Those old love letters remind me of my emotional failure and my accidental lies, just as "Just the Way You Are" undoubtedly remind Joel of his.
Perhaps this is why I can't see Billy Joel as cool. Perhaps it's because all he makes me see is me.
-Chuck Klosterman_

City of God

Me and a friend went and watched the movie, City of God, last night for a little Saturday night fun. I really had no idea what to expect from this movie because I hadn't seen any trailers for this flick. Overall I was thoroughly impressed with this film, the actor's characters, the music, camera angles, lighting, and the way they played with the time similar to the movie 21 Grams. They start the viewer out where the movie ends and takes you step by step through each character so you have knowledge of their history while the main theme pulls forward. I would really love to see this movie again just to make sure I didn't miss any details To put this film into a genre I would definitely say it is one of the most realistic depictions of gangster life by any means.

Camille Rose Garcia

I stumbled upon this artist's link from the Juxtapose website, I really like the illustrative quality oriented throughout her work. I am very excited and can't wait to see what this class has in store for me. The basis of this workshop is a musical composition called a fugue where the same musical arrangement of notes or "episodes " are found throughout the entire movement. The unique aspect of the episodes found within the musical arrangement is it has to be perfect for other notes can be stacked upon it so it harmonizes exactly, somewhat like the foundation to a house. Applying this to art we are going to work on designs so it can do this and that and will be a perfect fit.....Another intriguing part of this study is we will have guest composers/musicians every week.

What Can I say?

Well I am once again in Kansas City, Mo attending "art school". These choice things and conditions, whose value for human happiness counts as estimated and secure, are the artists' objects: they are always lying in wait to uncover them and draw them across into the domain of art. I mean to say: they are not themselves the assessors of happiness and of what makes happy, but they always crowd close up to these assessors with the greatest pleasure and curiosity so as to make immediate use of their valuations. Thus, because as well as their impatience they also possess the lungs of heralds and feet of runners, they will always be among the first to glorify the new good, and will often appear to be those who first call it and assess it as good. But this is, as stated, an error: they are only faster and louder than the actual assessors.- And who then are the actual assessors?- They are the rich and idle.
-Nietzche-

Dr. Seuss

So I have come to find out that Dr. Seuss did really cool sculptures, and there is a whole park with his stuff located in Massachusetts. Today in one of my classes, we had a guest percussion share his knowledge of Brazilian percussion instruments used to play a samba. It was so fun learning how to play as a class this ceremonial rhythm. Although I found out something very creepy about myself when our guest musician was demonstrating a particular instrument, the bass drum. I almost felt like crying when the vibration of the drum hit my body that was drawing me within the waves. My heart was probably beating at the same pace as the musician was striking it
It brought back memories of home created by the vibration hitting my ears. The only thing I could think of was when I was little my dad would practice for hours on his drumset and realize that I was nowhere to be found except sound asleep right in front of the bass drum. My dad thought this was the most humorous act I probably did as a child, but it really has an emotion connection deep within me of the age nineteen.....Let's just hope I don't end up marrying a drummer...HA! Just kidding dad............But I think I have changed my travel plans to Brazil instead Italy.

Pick of the Week (CityLife)

Las Vegas has, or will soon have, a film festival for just about every occasion. We've got fests with Jewish, Native American, African-American and Asian themes. We've got a DIY fest, short film showcases, and glitzy extravaganzas. Is there anyone who has been left out?

Yes, if you ask the guys behind the Scheissenhooven Film Festival. Somewhere, out there, a sprawling compound exists where artists, musicians, filmmakers and assorted geek-bohemians converge for the single-minded purpose of being creative. It's the Katherine Gianaclis Park for the Arts, and the people who live and create there decided to name their festival after the loosely translated German term "Shithoof." Why? That's an answer you'll have to find out for yourself.

"We're pretty much a group of renegade filmmakers who appreciate the efforts of those like ourselves," says Shithoofer Joey Kantor. Kantor's mom owned the property until she passed away several years ago. Since then, the property has become part commune, part junkyard and all-creative oasis.

The Shithoofers were inspired to start their own festival after they found themselves shut out of the valley's predominant celebrations of cinema due to lack of funds for entry fees or lack of connections. Their last fest coincided with CineVegas, and the Shithoofers had such a blast that they decided to do it twice a year. Musical acts will perform on a stage in the yard, and between films you can navigate the maze-like main building and see room after room of exhibited art. Expect some deliciously bad films, great low-rent atmosphere and unpretentious people. A $5 donation is welcome, but not mandatory. Pay it anyway.

Scheissenhooven starts at 10 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 18. Everything is new, the peolpe, weather, city, and having only my feet as transportation. I have especially had a hard time adjusting to peolpe around me. Im not a very "cuddley" person I guess you could say. It takes me awhile to open up. As days go by my experience becomes easier and easier, but the trip back home is what seems to get more and more depressing. I am starting to believe that when I return back home, my memories will not match with the real world that was left behind. All which I longed for will not be what it seemed like or will not be there anymore. As if my patches of good times and ties will have vanished before my eyes where I can't tell which way is up.........It's a dream where I can't wake up, or the feeling of a plastic bag cutting off my air supply. For only who knows when I will wake up.

Picture of the Day

Self Portrait

Check Out These Babies!

I found this sight just surfing around the web. My teacher informed us that the dungbeetle would roll their shit with them wherever they go and as time goes by their shit ball becomes larger until they are ready to lay their eggs inside of it.
I kind of could relate to this creature who carries their shit with them. I seem to carry lots of shit with me as a symbol of my life and I find myself exhausted from rolling it around with me until I eventually burst ( lay an egg). Under most circumstances my similarities with this bug are probably not very good for my emotional health. Since the end of August I have been surrounded by new things and new people trying to make this a new home. It has been one of the most irritating positions I have been in a long time, knowing that I can't go anywhere else or see anything familiar; a lack of control. The day I walked up to my visiting significant other to show him my new home, was a feeling I had not yet experienced before. To have a reassurance of knowing someone out there has once figured out who you really are is somewhat comforting when you have been living around new meaningless things. Although my fun is over. I am back to living and pissing in the art studio day and night without anyone to comfort me afterwards. It's the same discomfort I experience every morning when I find myself waking up alone to my cold dim dorm room to start the same thing all over again....
Basically, to sum things up, I just wanted to share my emotional revelation of how much joy and love I receive when I'm around you everytime, but it just made me realize it even more after being away for what feels like so long.

Just Another Day In the Life of Me

DON'T BE A DUM DUM!!...

This past weekend, one of my good friends from my hometown, just recently had a semen accident.
